Animal science research department:

The research activities of the animal science research department of Yazd agricultural and natural resources research and education center (AREEO), are focused on the fields of camel and quail breeding. In this regard, various projects in the field of breeding, nutrition, breeding and management have been carried out by the researchers of this department.

The national research and development station on dromedary camel (bafgh):

The national research and development station on dromedary camel with an area of about 200 hectares has been made in 1370 and located at a distance of 10 kilometers from Bafqh. In this research center already about 70 camels of the local ecotype with pedigrees and birth certificates are kept. This station has administrative department, camel breeding equipment, silo and feed storage and other facilities that needed for camel breeding. Over the years, there have been many research projects, some of which have resulted in the production of technical knowledge and transferring technology. Also, these results have been published in the form of promotional publications and handbooks.

Transferring technology:

1. The production of 22 certified dairy male camels (based on Low density SNP panel and mother's phenotypic evaluation)

2. The use of the camel herd assistant system (SARBANYAR) at the level of camel herd.

Commercial findings:

1. Low density SNP panel.

2. The camel support system (SARBANYAR app).

3. Technical knowledge of feed production using date waste in camel feeding.

22. - The effect of weaning age on the growth of camels, production and reproductive performance of female camels.

23. - Determining the tendency of camel grazing in relation to the plant species of the region.

24. - Determining the nutritive value of three pasture species used in sheep and camels feeding.

25. - Preliminary study of ovule induction and super ovulation for embryo transfer in Iranian single-humped camels.

26. - Investigation of blood-tissue protozoa contamination of camels in Yazd province.

27. - Identification of ticks of the Ixumidae family (hard ticks) in domestic ruminants (cows, sheep, goats and camels) in Yazd province.

28. - Investigating the effect of age and season on sperm characteristics and sex hormones changes in male single-humped camels.

Quail research station:

The quail research station has been made in 2013 in an area of 4000 meter square and with a substruction of 660 meter square. This farm has 4 breeding salon and equipment required for quail hatching and production. Various research projects, including the estimation of parameters and the genetic trend of body weight of japanese quail and the effect of genetics selection for the 28-day weight during two record-taking stages, as well as several PhD thesis and quail breeding up to 9 generations, have been carried out in this research center.
